Grandfather Clocks

All Grandfather Clocks are fitted with 8-day movements either chain or cable driven.
They are fitted with a night off lever or an automatic night off switch. When selected on automatic night off the Melodies are automatically silent from 10pm to 7.15am. The clocks have either one or three melodies which are: Westminster, St. Michael & the Whittington chimes. Or the exclusive melodies which are:

The Melodies, also called the chimes, play every 15 minutes in a progressing fashion or cycle. This means quarter past the hour it plays a quarter of the full length of melody, half past it plays half of the full length of the melody and so on... On the hour it plays its full length of the selected melody and is then followed by what is called the Strike of the hour. For example if it is 12 o'clock it will strike 12 times and if it is 1 o'clock it only will strike once. The exclusive melodies play only on the hour and are followed by the strike of the relevant hour, it also strikes once on quarter past, twice on half past, and three times on the three-quarter hour.

The Moon phase shows the phases of the moon. The numbers around the top of the moon phase indicate the number of days in the Lunar month, which is 29 and a half days. (The Lunar month has no relevance to the calendar month at all).
